How Much Does Home Window Tinting Cost?

Real prices per square foot, what moves them, how to measure your windows, and how to compare quotes.

Short answer

Home window film is priced by the square foot of glass: about $4–6 per square foot on larger projects and $12–14 per square foot on smaller jobs, with a $500 minimum per job. The more glass you film, the lower the price per square foot. The film matters too: decorative and privacy films generally cost less than solar control films. Your estimate shows the exact price for your windows and the film you choose. Tell us about two-story or hard-to-reach glass, French doors with divided glass and any old film that needs to come off, so your estimate covers them.

Our home window film prices

Texas Tinted prices home window film by the square foot of glass. The rate depends on the size of the project:

ProjectPriceWhat it means
Larger projects$4–6 per sq ftProjects with more glass. The more you film, the lower the price per square foot.
Smaller jobs$12–14 per sq ftJobs with less glass.
Job minimum$500The least any job costs, however little glass it covers.

Where your project lands depends on how much glass it covers. Your estimate shows the rate.

The more glass a project covers, the lower the price per square foot, so a few rooms or a whole side of the house at once is usually better value than one window at a time. Prefer to pay over time? We offer financing through Wisetack, Affirm and Klarna, subject to approval.

What moves the price

Amount of glassFilm and labor scale with square footage.Start with the windows causing the problem, usually west, south and upstairs.
Film choiceThe film changes the price. Decorative and privacy films generally cost less than solar control films.Match the film to each room’s goal. Your estimate shows the price for the films you pick.
Number and size of panesTen small panes take longer to install than one large pane of the same area, because the work is in the cutting and the edges.Mention grids and small panes so your estimate covers them.
Divided-lite windows and French doorsWhere grids sit on the room side of the glass, each small pane is cut and fitted separately. Grids sealed between the panes of dual-pane glass don’t add this work.Film the sun-facing doors first.
High or hard-to-reach glassTwo-story entries, transoms and stairwell windows need tall ladders and more time.Do them in the same visit as the rest.
Old film removalOld film and its adhesive have to come off before new film goes on.Mention old film when you ask for your estimate so it’s priced in. We remove old film as part of a new install.

How to measure your windows

You don’t need exact numbers for an online estimate, but measuring helps you understand the price. Measure the glass, not the frame or the wall opening:

  1. Measure the width and height of the visible glass in each pane. Round up to the next inch.
  2. Multiply width by height. If you measured in inches, divide by 144 to get square feet.
  3. Add up every pane. A single-hung or double-hung window has two sashes, so measure both.
  4. Note which way each window faces, and any doors, grids or high windows.

How the $500 minimum works

Every job has a $500 minimum. At the smaller-job rate of $12–14 per square foot, $500 covers roughly 36 to 42 square feet of glass ($500 ÷ $14 ≈ 36; $500 ÷ $12 ≈ 42). Below that, the minimum is what you pay.

Example job (15 sq ft windows)GlassAt $12–14 per sq ftWhat you pay
One window15 sq ft$180–210$500 minimum
Two windows30 sq ft$360–420$500 minimum
Three windows45 sq ft$540–630$540–630

Example using the smaller-job rate only. Your estimate shows the real rate for your windows and film.

So if one bathroom window or one hot bedroom is all you need, it’s worth asking what else could go in the same visit. In the example, a second window costs nothing more than the minimum and a third costs a little more, and the more glass a project covers, the lower the price per square foot.

How to compare quotes

Two quotes for “window tint” can describe very different jobs. Line them up on these points:

  • Same film: the exact product and shade, not just “ceramic” or “heat film”
  • Same glass: the total square feet and which windows are included
  • Price basis: per square foot or per window, and any job minimum
  • Glass check: whether each window was checked against the film maker’s film-to-glass guidelines
  • Removal: whether removing old film and adhesive is included
  • Warranty: a manufacturer warranty, its length, and what it covers
  • Visit: whether measuring at your house costs anything, and whether that is credited back

Be careful with per-window prices. A low price “per window” may assume small windows, and a large picture window or patio door can be several times the size. Square footage is the fairer comparison.

Getting a free estimate

The quickest way to a real number is our free online estimate. Enter your window sizes or upload a few photos, and we price the film for your windows without a visit. If you’d rather have us measure, we offer in-home measurements; a small visit fee may apply, and it’s credited toward your project if you book.

Residential films from 3M™ and HITEK carry manufacturer warranties of 10 years or lifetime, depending on the film. We confirm the warranty for your film with your estimate. Film goes on the inside of the glass, and most homes are done in a day.

Is it worth it?

Film costs a fraction of replacing windows and goes on without construction. Most homeowners decide on comfort first: a room that’s usable in the afternoon, less glare on the TV, and floors and furniture that fade more slowly, because quality films block 99% or more of UV. Energy savings depend on the house, so we don’t promise them; see whether window film lowers energy bills for how to judge that yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge by the window or by the square foot?

By the square foot of glass: $4–6 per sq ft on larger projects, $12–14 per sq ft on smaller jobs, $500 job minimum. The bigger the project, the lower the price per square foot. Your estimate shows the exact price for your windows and film.

Is the estimate free?

Yes. The online estimate from your window sizes or photos is free. If you’d like an in-home measurement, a small visit fee may apply and is credited toward your project if you book.

What’s the cheapest way to tint a few windows?

Group them into one job. Every job has a $500 minimum, so one small window can cost the same as two, and adding windows to the same visit lowers the price per square foot.
