Short answer
The best ceramic tint brand is the one that pairs a proven film line with a real manufacturer warranty, published heat numbers you can compare, and a skilled installer near you. 3M, XPEL, LLumar, SunTek and HITEK all make ceramic or ceramic-class films in several tiers, and their top tiers are close enough that the installer often matters as much as the logo. Compare films by total solar energy rejected (TSER) at the same shade, not by brand name or a single “IR rejection” number.
The main ceramic tint brands
| Brand | Ceramic-class lines (examples) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 3M™ | Crystalline, Ceramic IR | Crystalline is a multilayer optical film with more than 200 layers rather than a ceramic-particle film; Ceramic IR is 3M’s ceramic line. |
| XPEL | PRIME XR PLUS, PRIME XR | Nano-ceramic window films from a company best known for paint protection film. |
| LLumar (Eastman) | IRX, CTX | Long-established automotive film brand with a large dealer network. |
| SunTek (Eastman) | Ceramic and carbon lines | Sister brand to LLumar, sold through its own dealer network. |
| HITEK | Ceramic Ultra, Ceramic IR, Ceramic Black | Ceramic lines from entry to high infrared rejection; HITEK also makes PPF and architectural film. |
Product lines change; check each maker’s current spec sheet. Texas Tinted is an authorized dealer for 3M and HITEK and does not install the other brands listed.
How to compare ceramic films
- TSER at the same shade. Total solar energy rejected is the best single measure of heat. Compare 35% to 35%, not one brand’s 5% to another’s 35%.
- Treat “IR rejection” with care. It is often measured over a narrow band of infrared and can make a film look better than its TSER. Our TSER guide explains why.
- Manufacturer-backed warranty. Ask what it covers (fading, bubbling, peeling, discoloration), whether it is registered in your name, and who honors it if the shop closes.
- Non-metal construction. Ceramic and multilayer films don’t interfere with phone, GPS, keyless entry or toll tags.
- Clarity and color. Look at samples on a car in daylight. Some films look more neutral, some slightly warmer or cooler.
Why the installer matters as much
The same film can look factory-perfect or obviously aftermarket depending on who installs it. Look for clean edges close to the glass, no contamination or dust under the film, careful work on curved rear glass and dot-matrix borders, and a shop that stands behind the install as well as the film. Ask to see recent work on a car like yours.
Entry vs premium ceramic
Most brands sell an entry ceramic line and one or two premium lines. Premium films usually reject more of the sun’s energy at a given shade, which matters most where you can’t go dark: the front doors and windshield. Entry ceramic is still a real step up from dyed or carbon film. A common way to manage cost is premium film on the front doors and windshield strip, entry ceramic in back.
What matters most in Houston
Texas law requires front side windows to let in at least 25% of light (film and glass together), so you can’t get comfort from darkness on the windows next to you. That makes heat rejection at legal front-door shades the deciding spec. Long sunny commutes, open parking lots and glass roofs push the case for a higher-tier film. See Texas tint laws.
What Texas Tinted installs, and why
We are an authorized dealer for 3M and HITEK and install ceramic-class film only. That gives every budget a real ceramic option: HITEK Ceramic IR as the entry line, and 3M Crystalline or HITEK Ceramic Ultra at the top. Car tint starts at $249. The instant quote prices each film for your exact vehicle, and our ceramic window tint page compares our lines side by side. If you have your heart set on a brand we don’t carry, the comparison checklist above works for any shop.

Frequently asked questions
Is 3M tint better than XPEL?
Both make respected films. At the top tier the difference between brands is smaller than the difference between shades, film lines and installers. Compare TSER at the same shade and the warranty terms.
Is premium ceramic tint worth the extra cost?
Usually on the front doors and windshield strip, where Texas law keeps the film light and the heat rejection has to come from the film technology. Entry ceramic is often enough in back.
Does ceramic tint interfere with phone or GPS signals?
No. Ceramic and multilayer films are non-metal, so they don’t interfere with phone, GPS, keyless entry or toll tags.
Who makes the best ceramic tint?
There’s no single winner. 3M, XPEL, LLumar, SunTek and HITEK all make strong ceramic-class lines. Pick by published TSER, warranty and the installer’s work.
